Department of Physics was established in the year 1958 with ' Pre – Degree ' Science class. The first batch of the 13 students graduated from the institute in 1962. Gradually the department has flourished further year by year. A number of students from our department have been placed in the merit list of the University and few of them have topped in the University merit list. To enhance the interest of students in space physics, department started Astrophysics as an interdisciplinary subject at B. Sc. II level from the academic year 1979-80. The Department runs Space Physics Students' Association ( SPSA ) to enhance the interest of the students in space science. The short term certificate course, " Maintenance and Repairing of Electric Domestic Appliances" is being conducted from the academic year 2006 -2007. M.Sc. Physics (PG course) is started from the academic year 2012 – 2013.
