NCC UNIT
In Yashavantrao Chavan Institute of Science,Satara One troop of A/2 Company is established under the 22 Maharashtra Bn NCC,Satara since 1965 and Two troops (of Fully Self-Funded Scheme (FSFS)) established under the 22 Maharashtra Bn NCC, Satara since 2022-23.
Along with rigorous NCC training, all cadets participate in various social activities like, Tree plantation, Blood donation; Pulse polio mass Immunization and Rallies organized by unit with government and non-government organizations. Many NCC cadets get selected for prestigious republic day parade, Independence Day functions, Cleanliness drive and camps organized at State and National level.
Till today 39 cadets selected in Indian Army as 'Commissioned Officer' and more than thousands in Indian Armed forces (army, navy, air force, paramilitary force and police) 'Non-Commissioned Officer'. Apart from this, many cadets joined in duties of nation by qualifying the public commission exams as well as the non-government organization some cadets successfully leading their businesses.

NATIONAL CADET CORPS (NCC ARMY WING)
The NCC aims at developing character, comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook, the spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service amongst young citizens. Further, it aims at creating a pool of organized, trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities in all walks of life, who will serve the Nation regardless of which career they choose. The NCC also provides an environment conducive to motivating young Indians to join the armed forces.
1) To Create a Human Resource of Organized, Trained and Motivated Youth, To Provide Leadership in all Walks of life and be Always Available for the Service of the Nation.2) To Provide a Suitable Environment to Motivate the Youth to Take Up a Career in the Armed Forces.
3) To Develop Character, Comradeship, Discipline, Leadership, Secular Outlook, Spirit of Adventure, and Ideals of Selfless Service amongst the Youth of the Country.
“Unity and Discipline” is defined as motto for the NCC in the 12th Central Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting held on 12 Oct 1980. In living up to its motto, the NCC strives to be and is one of the greatest cohesive forces of our nation, bringing together the youth hailing from different parts of our country and moulding them into united, secular, and disciplined citizens of our nation.

The NCC is a responsive, learning and continuously evolving organization. Its activity is guided by certain Core Values that we endeavor to instill among all ranks of the NCC. These include the following

In 1954 The existing tricolor flag was introduced. The three colors in the flag depict the three Services of the Corps, red for the Army, deep blue for the Navy and light blue for the Air Force. The letters NCC crest in gold in the middle of the flag encircled by a wreath of lotus, giving the flag a colorful look and a distinct identity. Each lotus represents one NCC Directorate (DTE).

NCC TRAINING
Institutional training conducted at Colleges and Schools is the mainstay of NCC training and is conducted by Associate NCC Officers and Armed Forces personnel. The syllabus comprises Common Subjects and Service Subjects in the ratio 70:30. Senior Wing/Division training is for three years and has 300 periods. The training year is from 01 Apr to 31 March. Institutional training includes basic military training for the cadets as part of the curriculum and prepares them to join the Armed Forces. It is conducted with the following specific purpose:
1)To expose young cadets to a `regimental way of life’ which is essential to inculcate in them the values of discipline, duty, punctuality, orderliness, smartness, respect for the authorities, correct work ethos, and self- confidence.2) To generate interest in cadets by including and laying emphasis on those aspects of Institutional Training which attract young cadets into the NCC and provides them with an element of thrill and excitement.
3)To inculcate Defence Services work ethos that is characterized by hard work, sincerity of purpose, honesty, ideal of selfless service, dignity of labor, secular outlook, comradeship, spirit of adventure and sportsmanship.
- • At school and Colleges:
- o Conducted by ANO and Armed Forces Personnel
- o Syllabus Comprises Common Subjects and Service Subjects 70:30 ratio.
- o Training 3 Years and have 300 Periods.
- o Training Year Starts from 01 April to 31 March
- o Emphasis on Practical Training, Case study of Instructions
- • Basic Military Training to join Armed Forces:
- o Expose young cadets to ‘Regimental Way of Life’.
- o Attract Young cadets to join NCC.
Camp training is the practical manifestation of institutional training. The basic aim of Camps is:
- a. To introduce cadets to a regimented way of life and help in developing camaraderie, teamwork, leadership qualities, self-confidence, self-reliance, and dignity of labor in the cadets.
- b. The cadets are exposed to the excitement of camp life where they apply the theoretical knowledge that they had gained in Institutional Training.
It is mandatory for Senior Division/ Senior Wing cadets to attend a minimum of two camps during the period of their enrolment. Each NCC Camp is structured for approximately 400 – 600 cadets with Instructional staff comprising three to four officers and 15-20 Associate NCC Officers (ANOs)/ Permanent Instructors (PI) Staff/ Whole Time Lady Officers (WTLOs)/ Girl Cadet Instructors (GCIs). Republic Day camp is the acme of NCC training and is conducted in January every year. The various types of camps conducted by the NCC are as follows:
- i) Annual Training Camps/ Combined Annual Training Camps (ATC/CATC): These are held within the State under the aegis of respective NCC Directorates.
- ii) Centrally Organized Camps (COC): These camps are of all India nature and are planned by Headquarter DGNCC in consultation with State NCC Directorates which conduct them. Selected cadets, as per the vacancies allotted to each Directorate, participate in these camps. The following types of centrally organized camps are conducted: –
- i) Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat (EBSB): Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat (EBSB) Camps are conducted to make cadets understand and value the rich heritage of cultures that forge unity despite the diverse languages, traditions, and religions of our country. These camps are conducted between two states and help bridge the cultural gap among various states of India.
- ii) Leadership Camps: Advance Leadership Camps (ALC), are conducted every year, cadets attend to focus on personality development, leadership skills and orientation for induction into the Armed Forces.
- iii) Thal Sainik Camp (TSC): Two TSCs are conducted at HQ DGCC Camp, Parade Ground, Delhi Cantt every year in Sep/Oct, one for SD/JD boys and other for SW/JW girls. 680 Boy and 680 Girl cadets take part in each camp.
- iv) Rock Climbing Training Camps (RCTC): Rock climbing camps are held to expose NCC cadets to the basics of rock climbing and to inculcate the spirit of adventure.
- iii) Annual Republic Day Camp:
- • Held every year at Garrison Parade Ground, Delhi Cantt.
- • From 01 Jan to 29 Jan. 2070 selected NCC cadets from all States and Union Territories attend the camp.
- • Represents all parts of India and is a ‘Mini India’ in itself.
- • The camp is normally inaugurated by the Vice President of India in the first week of Jan and culminates with the
Prime Minister’s Rally on 28 January. - • It is a matter of great pride for a cadet to be selected to represent his/ her state in the Republic Day Camp.
- iv) Prime Minister’s Rally
- • The most prestigious event of the NCC Republic Day Camp
- • Held on 28 January every year. Approx. 3,000 cadets participate in this rally.
- • Commences with the Guard of Honor presented to Hon’ble Prime Minister by NCC Cadets.
- • Contingents from all State NCC Directorate participate in the March Past.
- • Tableaux of Social activities being undertaken by NCC.
- • Cadets display their skills in equestrian, parasailing, band display, slithering and simulated Army action.
- • Culminates with award of Prime Minister’s Banner to the winning Directorate by the Hon’ble Prime Minister.
- • The events are witnessed by several dignitaries that include Hon’ble Raksha Mantri, Raksha Rajya Mantri, three Service Chiefs and the Defence Secretary.
- v) Attachment Training
Cadets of all wings go through a period of attachment with respective services of the Armed Forces as:
- • Army Units:
- • 440 officers and 20,000 cadets attend attachment training with regular army units annually.
- • Indian Military Academy/Officers Training Academy:
- • 120 SD cadets undergo attachment training at Indian Military Academy, Dehradun
- • 48 SW cadets at Officers Training Academy, Chennai.
- • Military Hospital Attachment:
- • 1000 SW cadets are attached with various Military Hospitals for 12 days.
The objectives of Social Service are as follows:
- 1) To teach the cadets the dignity of labor and to create in them an interest in constructive work which will be of
use to the community. - 2) To set an example of selfless service and teamwork.
- 3) To give a lead in organized work, with a view to utilizing to the maximum possible extent the available unused time, energy and other resources of our people and direct them in various fields of social and economic activity.
- 4) Structured to inspire and encourage the cadets to participate voluntarily in activities.
- o Selected NCC cadets participate in Youth Exchange Programme
- o YEP is a country to country exchange of cadets belonging to NCC/ equivalent Govt/ youth organizations of friendly countries.
- o They participate in NCC activities of the host country to create an increased awareness and appreciation of
each other’s socio-economic and cultural realities. - o NCC has a vibrant YEP with ten countries. The benefits of this programme have been widely acknowledged.
- o Our cadets share a strong bond with our YEP partners.
- o To Provide knowledge of the topography as well as experience of different weather conditions and adventurous living under camp conditions.
- o The aim is to inculcate a spirit of adventure, explorative inquisitiveness, develop stamina, endurance, discipline, courage,
determination, comradeship, leadership leading to development of self-confidence, team spirit and spirit-de- corps amongst
NCC cadets. - o NCC cadets are given the opportunity to participate in a host of adventure activities including Mountain Treks and Expeditions,
Trekking, Parasailing, Sailing, Scuba Diving, Kayaking, Camel safari etc. - o Adventure based activities enable cadets to hone leadership skills and enhance their character qualities.
- o Cadets with potential are given opportunities to participate in expeditions requiring a higher degree of expertise and
proficiency. - o Mountaineering Expeditions: NCC has been conducting two mountaineering expeditions every year, one each for the girl and
boy cadets. - o All India Trekking Expedition: 29 Trekking Expedition conducted annually.
- o Parasailing: To give cadets the thrill and experience of this adventure activity.
- o Para Basic Course Every year 40 boy & 40 girl cadets attend Para Basic Course at Para Training School, Agra for a duration of
24 days. - o Cycle and Motorcycle Rallies: Conducted by different State NCC Directorate to spread the message of peace, harmony and
national integration and educate the populace on health, community development and eradication of social evils. - o Sailing Expedition: Conducted by State NCC Directorates every year. 35 to 60 cadets participate in each expedition.
- o Sea Sorties: Cadets are put on board Naval Ships for sea experience. In 2015, 245 Cdts have been on four sea sorties.
- o NCC National Games:

- • Inter State Directorate Shooting competition to select the NCC team to participate in the National Rifle Association of Indian (NRAI)

- • At Officers Training Academy (OTA) Kamptee/Gwalior:
- o Imparting training to ANOs, JCOs and NCOs
- o 2 courses SSB Capsule 10 Days for 100 SD Cadets at Kamptee
- o 2 courses SSB Capsule 10 Days for 50 SW Cadets at Gwalior

- • On successful completion of the laid down syllabi, cadets of Senior Division/Wing for ‘B’ & ‘C’ certificate examinations.
- • These are open for the cadets who have attended the requisite number of periods and camps during their training.

CADETS CORNER
• Selection process conducted by 22 Mah Battalion.
• Selection for first year in month of June/July
1. Requirements:
1. Citizen of India or a subject of Nepal.
2. Bearing good moral character.
3. Enrolled in First year of institution.
4. Age: Senior Division/Wing (Boys/Girls) – Upto 26 years
5. Enrolment Period: Senior Division/Wing (Boys/Girls): 3 years
